Evangelism

Our job is to know Jesus, enjoy Him and make him known, if we won’t tell the world about Jesus, who will?

Romans 10:9-11 & 14-15
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”… How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Consider yourself sent.

You are the missionary.

When Jesus told his disciples to go to the nations and make disciples, the disciples responded by planting churches, and the local church, meaning the gathering of believers is how the disciples sought to fulfill the great commission Jesus sent them on… Yes, some people crossed oceans and continents carrying the torch of the gospel, but the vast majority of people stayed, belonged, came to faith, and grew in faith enough to be equipped to proclaim that faith in their local context, being a missionary is not reserved only for those crossing continents, but also for those crossing streets to talk with neighbors, friends and family members.

You are here because of generations of faithful people who came before you who made much of Jesus and were faithful witnesses of Christ leading to you knowing about Jesus, and now we have the honor and privilege to join in this great work, to be the shoulders that future generations can stand on as they continue on the mission of knowing and enjoying Jesus, and making Him known.

This page will be updated with hopes of providing you with some tools to start you on your journey of telling others about Jesus and giving you ideas that you can run with.

Survey Evangelism

This survey is done so that you can go to any public place that will let you and do interviews with strangers on the street, you can introduce yourself and say: "I'm doing a worldview and faith study of people living in Iceland, do you have 1 minute to answer a few questions?"

If they say that they would say yes or be likely to say yes to a stranger inviting them to church service you can hand out flyers for the church and ask them to come on Sunday.

If the conversation takes off in talking about Jesus feel free to ignore the survey and use the opportunity to talk about Jesus.

If no conversation happens then pray that this survey might get them thinking about Jesus as they leave, and if nothing else that this information would be useful for us to understand Icelandic culture with regards to faith and worldview.

Below are three different surveys you can choose from, all containing 10 questions.

3 friends challenge

You have a platform, it may not seem obvious, but in your life you have souls who will listen to you whom no one else may be able to speak to in a way that they will listen, we encourage you to write down the names of 3 friends or family members you want to see come to know the hope you’ve found in Jesus Christ, feel free to use the piece of paper as a bookmark for your Bibles to pray for as you read your Bibles, pray for them, ask the Spirit of God to move in them and change them, and pray that God would give you the eyes to see and the ears to hear when he is presenting you with the opportunities to participate in his unfolding story where you are and that you would have the right words to speak at the right time to point them to Jesus.

Remember that not every conversation is a straight-up gospel conversation, some will simply get them to think, perhaps leave a spiritual pebble in their shoe that they can’t stop thinking about, and remember this famous quote, that out of 100 people, 99 of them will not read their Bibles, before they ever read their Bibles they will be reading the Christian to see if there’s anything about their life that seems different, so remember you are a witness in every aspect of life.

Some platforms are obvious

While some platforms are not as obvious, after all, the biggest influencer on someone’s life is typically a parent, and generally, that’s not viewed as a “platform”, even though you have the loudest voice in their life, and they are not only hearing you but seeing you live out your faith, other platforms however are obvious, well mostly because we call them “platforms”.

Think of all the various social media platforms and realize that unfortunately we’re at a stage in human history in the west where the public square has moved online, and the place to debate ideas is no longer the city square, universities or the city gates but places like Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and whatever will take over next (Can we get a good comeback story with MySpace?).

Realize that what you like, share, tweet and put on your feed is a way to reach people, surprising people who may not even show that they are following what you are putting out, so one way you can be a missionary is simply by sharing content that points to Jesus and if you want to take it a step further you can be the one creating content that gives itself to elevating the fame of Jesus name among the nations right from your office chair.

You can create art that tells of Jesus, produce music that preaches Jesus, create art shows that point to Jesus, do podcasts, go sing worship songs at Kareoki bars and so much more.

One awesome way to strike up conversations with complete strangers on the street is by recording your conversations and putting them up on social media, and you can do that in such a way that informs people about what others believe while also sharing the beautiful message of the good news of Jesus, below is one example.
