Serve

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”
-2. Corinthians 12:4-7

We believe that each Christian has been given gifts to serve the church, if you want to get plugged in and use your gifts to serve our church fill the form below to let us know where you think you’d best fit. Below we’ll list various ministries that you can get plugged into.

Ministries you can get plugged into:

  • The welcoming team takes care of setting up for Sunday services and cleaning up after Sunday services, but also welcoming people as they walk in the door, connecting new people to members of the church, getting them to fill the visitor cards and giving them the gifts for first time visitors.

  • The meal team serves a function in our church that has become a part of our identity, following every Sunday service we prepare a free lunch where people can mingle, meet, get to know one another and plan to meet up during the week.

Some people have decided to pay for the food themselves, but we also have it in our budget to compensate any expenses that the person may have when preparing the meals.

  • On Sundays our aim is to have children’s ministry every week during the sermon where we teach the children stories from the Bible, do crafts and have fun.

In the future we hope to have a children’s ministry that not only teaches the kids during Sundays but gives parents materials to take home to teach their kids about the faith.

  • Our hope is to be a church that preaches the good news of Jesus who helped us in our distress, and in our benevolence ministry we seek to reflect the love of Jesus by helping others who find themselves in physical or financial need.

Currently the benevolence team reviews applications for financial support and gives grocery cards to individuals and families in need, this needs to be done with a balance of being generous, but also using our limited resources well to last throughout the year.

  • God has allowed us to reach some people via social media and we’d love to use whatever opportunity to reach people where they’re at with the beauty of the good news.

Being a part of the social media team may mean that you volunteer in answering messages that come via social media, set up a long term social media strategy to reach people by sharing photos from our gatherings, videos from sermons, testimonies from people within the church and so much more.

  • Media is a broad category including audio, video and publishing of any kind.

If you want to be a part of the media team it may look like helping with the live streams on Sunday services, working the mixer for our worship team, taking care of the lyrics on the projector, or being a part of making videos to reach people with the beauty of the good news of Jesus by producing video, books, or audio recordings throughout the week.

  • Ex Deus is our University ministry where we seek to host events reaching out to students on the campus of the Unversity of Iceland with various events and meet up for Bible studies on campus.

  • Our Youth ministry meets on Friday evenings at 19:00, our hope is to see young people grow in love with Jesus through meeting together, praying together, reading the Bible together, worshipping together and forming deep and godly relationships as we have fun and as they grow in faith together.

  • “addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” -Ephesians 5:19-20

The Scriptures command us to sing, and we gladly accept the challenge, the worship team takes care of leading us in singing on Sunday mornings.

We believe music is a gift from God, and we hope that we can see gifted musicians not only lead us on Sunday mornings in worship, but to create melodies and lyrics, and eventually produce music so that it can reach beyond the gatherings of our church body to point people to the beauty of Jesus.

    E. Y. Harburg once said: “Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought.”

We hope that the worship team would not only allow our church to feel thoughts but also people outside of our gatherings.

  • Our hope is to meet together in larger gatherings on Sunday and in small groups throughout the week where we can hold each other accountable, encourage one another, seek to apply the truths of the Scriptures to our daily lives, confess our sins to one another, pray together, and spur each other on to love and good deeds.

If you want to be a part of helping us start small groups, get in touch.

If none of the existing ministries fit your giftings, perhaps God has called you to help us start other ministries within the church, we believe the church is called to operate like a family party rather than a restaurant… In a restaurant you might walk in with the idea of being served, while in a family gathering you walk in with the idea that you will be served, but you are also there to serve others.

In the future we’d love to see more ministries happening at Loftstofan including teams around: Prayer, Evangelism, Drug and Alcohol Recovery, Biblical & Marriage counselling, Pick up for services, International Outreach, Homeless ministry, elderly ministry, pregnancy resource center, and a pro-life ministry.

We pray that God would send us people with the heart for these various ministries, the character to sustain them in ministry and the giftings to see the vision through.

Perhaps even with the various ministries mentioned above you still have yet another ministry that you’d like to start, we’d love to hear what you’re feeling called to.
