You do not need to have everything figured out before visiting Loftstofan. Some who come have followed Jesus for many years, while others are exploring Christianity, returning to church after a long time away, or attending a church gathering for the first time. Questions are welcome, and we would be glad to meet you, listen to you, and share with you the hope of the gospel and what it means to follow Jesus Christ.

Our Sunday gathering is centered on Jesus Christ. Together we sing, pray, read Scripture, hear God’s Word preached, and encourage one another in the gospel. The service is simple and welcoming, and there is no dress code or expectation that visitors already know what to do. Whether you have been part of a church for many years or are attending for the first time, you are welcome to come, listen, participate as you are comfortable, and learn more about Christ with us.

Loftstofan is an international church made up of both Icelanders and people from many different nations and backgrounds. Because English is a language that most of our congregation shares, our Sunday gatherings are held primarily in English so that as many people as possible can worship, learn, and participate together. We love Iceland and desire to see the gospel flourish among Icelanders, while also recognizing the unique opportunity God has given us to serve the growing international community that calls Iceland home.

Families and children are an important part of our church life, and children are always welcome in the Sunday gathering. During the service, we provide a nursery for infants through four years old, with a parent or guardian remaining with their child, as well as a children’s class for children approximately four through ten years old. Our desire is to support parents as they disciple their children and to help young hearts grow in their understanding of the gospel.

Following the Sunday service, we share a free meal together, and visitors are warmly encouraged to stay. This time of fellowship gives us an opportunity to slow down, meet one another, continue conversations from the morning, build friendships, and enjoy life together as a church family. There is no cost and no need to register beforehand.

In Scripture, the church is not primarily a building or a weekly event, but a people redeemed by Christ and brought together to worship Him, grow in faith, care for one another, and make the gospel known. That is why our life together extends beyond Sunday mornings. Throughout the week, we gather in smaller settings for Bible study, prayer, fellowship, service, discipleship, and other opportunities to encourage one another in the Christian life.
