Knowing Jesus.
Making Him Known.
An international, English-speaking Baptist church in the Reykjavík area, gathering to worship Christ, grow together, and make the gospel known in Iceland.
A church centered
on Jesus Christ.
Loftstofan Baptistakirkja is an international, English-speaking Baptist church in the Reykjavík area. We exist to glorify God by knowing Jesus, growing together as His people, and making Him known in Iceland and beyond.
Loftstofan means
“the upper room.”
Our name comes from the upper room in Acts, where the disciples gathered together in prayer as they waited for the promised Holy Spirit.
That picture of the early church has helped shape the kind of church we desire to be: a people devoted to Christ, committed to one another, dependent upon God in prayer, and sent into the world with the good news of Jesus.
Growing as the
people of God.
Our name also gives us a simple way to describe the life we want to pursue together as a church.
Grow Upwards
We want to know, love, worship, and delight in God, growing in devotion to Jesus with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Grow Inwards
We want to live as a genuine church family, practicing the “one another” commands of Scripture as we disciple, encourage, serve, and care for each other.
Grow Outwards
We want to love our neighbors in word and deed, proclaim the gospel faithfully, make disciples, and participate in planting healthy churches in Iceland and beyond.
To glorify God
and enjoy Him
forever.
Loftstofan exists by the grace of God and for the glory of God. His glory is not simply one ministry priority among many. It is the reason the church exists.
God is gathering a people for Himself through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. We therefore want every part of our life together—our worship, preaching, fellowship, discipleship, mercy, evangelism, and mission—to display the greatness and worth of Christ.
As we know Christ and enjoy Him, we want others to know the same joy. This is why we summarize the life and mission of our church with two simple commitments:
Knowing
Jesus.
We want to behold Christ in His Word, worship Him together, seek Him in prayer, enjoy fellowship with His people, and grow throughout our lives as His disciples.
Making Him
Known.
Because the gospel is good news for the world, we want to proclaim Christ to our neighbors, serve those around us, make disciples, strengthen churches, and help carry the gospel wherever God gives opportunity.
“To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”Ephesians 3:21
